Stuart Scott — Update
After spending time continuing with chemotherapy and other treatments following his stay at the Mayo Clinic in October, Stuart has been preparing for the upcoming Conference of the Parties (COP), the United Nations Climate Change Conference. Stuart left Hawaii on November 15th and arrived in Barcelona, Spain, a day later. He is currently staying with friends, who have arranged a work area for him so he can be warm and comfortable while he’s working. He will be travelling by train from Barcelona to Madrid in the coming week. COP 25 will be held in Madrid from Dec. 2nd to Dec. 13th.
COP25 — From Brazil to Chile to Spain
In 2018, the UN announced that the 25th Conference of the Parties (COP 25), would be held in Brazil, but approximately one month later Jair Bolsonaro, climate change sceptic and newly elected president, withdrew Brazil’s candidacy. It was then moved to Santiago, Chile. Unfortunately, due to anti-government protests, Chilean President Sebastian Piñera made the decision to withdraw Chile’s candidacy approximately one month prior to the start of COP. The government of Spain then offered to provide a venue for COP25 in Madrid. Note that Chile remains the official host of the conference.
Scientists’ Warning at COP25
Stuart is going ahead with plans for producing SW programs at the COP. Regina Valdez will be participating as principal co-host throughout the conference and Patrick Lincoln will be a back-up host and volunteer during the first week. Charles Gregoire, Heidi Brault and Carlos Fulgêncio will be in attendance as volunteers. Dr. Peter Carter (IPCC Expert Reviewer) and Paul Beckwith, Climate System Scientist, will also be at the COP. Rob Harding, who took on the role as Lead Program Organizer, Brian McGavin, who has been working on media advisories, and Christian Dommasch, who will be the lead Video Editor, won’t be attending.
SW has an exciting line-up of guests, including Dr. Peter Wadhams, Dr. James Hansen, and Greta Thunberg, amongst others.

Volunteers
The Scientists’ Warning Team welcomes your assistance. It is quite by intention that we do not seek funding. First, it puts an organization in competition with other allied organizations for the scarce philanthropic funds available. Second, it subjects the organization to the editorial bias of the funders, which is sometimes subtle and sometimes overt. Third, establishing a budget based upon fundraising forces an organization to devote significant time and energy to covering the ongoing budget from month to month and year to year.
Since we are not funded, all work of the Scientists’ Warning initiative (.org and .TV) is accomplished by our teams on a volunteer basis. Please consider joining one of these teams.
